Do you have the crystal quest active? Without it fates won't drop the crystals.
The bot is fairly safe. However, do not set your expectations that you won't be banned. There is a real possibility but the numbers so far were extremely low. Those who have gotten banned were often teleporting, harvesting/grinding same locations for extended periods of time, or just got unlucky enough to get reported by someone.
