Have a bot that purely farms Ephemeral nodes, Unspoiled nodes in 3.X areas 24/7 for over a year and not banned once. Have seen another couple bots using minion (His bot and mine were stacked on each other while waiting for the unspoiled node to pop) and he's still around.
Have seen another user who bots using teleport hack to farm ARR unspoiled nodes and farm shards and crystals, and never seen him banned, he later transferred to another server. I know this guy been reported since people see him using teleport hack.
Yet I have seen someone who gather simple mats and be suspended for botting.
From what I have seen the quickest way to get banned is through duties using telehacks, and the odd token banning by SE to ban shard farmers. Seen people reporting that they were banned for shard farming, personally I think there is more that that since I have used many throwaway bots farming shards/crystals to level up slowly and then moving onto unspoiled nodes. Wish they would post which server they are on, if they were on large servers it would make sense, given the server congestions we have been having. I don't use telehacks, only repair.
In my opinion it depends on the server you are one, how many people reports you, how lazy the GM is and whether you sell gil or not. It's a risk everyone undertakes when botting. When you use Minion you have to accept the fact it is not a matter of if you will be banned/suspended, just a question of when. That when is fairly small.
